CHH Sleep Health Center Receives Certification at new location in Torrington

February 10, 2022

The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Sleep Health Center has moved to a new, state-of-the art location at 1151 East Main Street, Suite D, in Torrington.

The CHH Sleep Health Center has been in operation since 2002 and is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the gold standard by which the medical community and the public evaluate sleep medicine facilities. Achieving AASM accreditation demonstrates our commitment to high-quality, patient-centered care.

The new CHH Sleep Health facility features four comfortable, tranquil patient rooms with private bathrooms and advanced monitoring equipment. It’s ideally arranged for conducting both daytime and night time sleep studies. Our Center’s board-certified Medical Director and registered, certified Sleep Technologists adhere to strict standards for testing procedures, patient safety and physician and staff training and continuous education.

Between 50 million and 70 million Americans have sleep or wakefulness disorders. If untreated, these conditions can lead to serious health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, obesity and certain cancers.

“Patients should seek help if they do not feel rested after sleeping, experience irregular breathing, snore loudly or have a headache when they wake up,” said Dr. Jay Kenkare, CHH Sleep Health Center Director. Dr. Kenkare provides consultations for patients who have been referred to the Center by their provider and for those who have been diagnosed with a sleep disorder.

The Center offers assessments and treatment for sleep-related disorders, including sleep apnea (obstructive, central and complex), insomnia, parasomnia, restless legs syndrome, sleep-related movement disorders, hypersomnias (narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia) and circadian rhythm sleep disorders. Studies are conducted in the Sleep Center, as well as at home for those who qualify for Home Sleep Testing.

From their first encounter with the CHH Sleep Health Center, patients are provided with personalized support from scheduling their appointment to diagnostic testing and treatment options.

“We treat each patient with utmost respect to their privacy and dignity,” said Mark Magnoli, Registered Sleep Technologist and Respiratory Therapist. “We are careful to explain each step and take the time to answer questions throughout the process. Our goal is to insure patients are comfortable and relaxed, which is important to obtaining the highest-quality and most accurate test results.”

Patients should be evaluated by their primary care physician prior to having a sleep study, and a physician’s referral is required. Most health insurance plans including Medicare cover sleep studies, which are recognized as standard medical diagnostic procedures.
