CHH Offering ‘StrongWomen’ Health Training Program

A new series of StrongWomen Strength Training classes, sponsored by Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, will begin on Jan. 6. This is a great way for women to start off a strong and healthy new year!

The classes are specifically designed for midlife aged women and older who have been active or relatively sedentary for the past few years and are interested in improving their health and vitality. The specialized, nationally recognized program developed by Miriam Nelson, PhD at Tufts University includes research-based, low-key exercises using simple equipment and personal, motivational support in a nurturing group environment. It’s simple, fun and helps participants experience increased strength, muscle tone, and an overall sense of well-being.

Classes are taught by certified instructor Veronica Kleeman and meet TWO times a week on Mondays and Wednesdays for a total of 14 total times in seven consecutive weeks. Each Class lasts one and a half hours and includes a 5 minute warm up, 8 to 12 strength training exercises to promote proper body awareness, positioning, flexibility and posture, and 5 minute cool down.

The program aims to help women strengthen muscles, increase bone density, regain bone and muscle and lose fat, and reduce the risk for arthritis, osteoporosis and related fractures. Strength training offers physical, mental and emotional benefits including increased muscle mass and strength, improved bone density, reduced risk for osteoporosis and related fractures, reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression and obesity, improved self-confidence, sleep and vitality and improved balance.

The next class series begins on Monday, Jan. 6, and runs through Wednesday, Feb. 19. Classes are held at the Litchfield Firehouse, 258 West Street, Litchfield, CT. The fee for entire class of 14 sessions over 7 weeks in total is $85. Participants can join a class series at any time for a prorated price.
