DAWN Stroke Protocol

Our stroke teams use the latest protocol to give ischemic stroke patients more time for acute treatment, which means fewer disabilities and better outcomes.

At one time, the window to treat patients with an ischemic stroke caused by a blood clot to the brain was six hours. But, thanks to the groundbreaking DAWN study in 2017, that timeframe has increased up to 24 hours for select patients.

We adopted the DAWN protocols at all of our facilities, and our patients are now screened using advanced image processing
technology called RAPID CT Perfusion. This pinpoints the damage caused by an ischemic stroke, locates areas of brain tissue that can be saved, and establishes a timeline for when the stroke occurred. Knowing that time helps us effectively treat the patient.
