Every day, Hartford HealthCare touches 23,000 lives through every aspect of our work – seeing patients, training, research, charitable care and screenings. On certain days, such as our system-wide Medical Mission, those numbers tick up dramatically as colleagues and providers render free care to thousands of the neediest among us. Both aspects of our work demonstrate Hartford HealthCare’s commitment to strengthening the health of all. In 2022, that investment translated into more than $305 million in community benefit.

Here are a few examples of partnerships in our community

On November 4, 2023, Hartford HealthCare provided critical medical services for free to our underserved communities. Now in its ninth year, the Medical Mission connects our communities to resources, follow-up care and more.	The 36th Annual Swim Across the Sound Marathon took place July 29, 2023. Swimmers crossed Long Island Sound from Port Jefferson to Captains’ Cove Seaport in Bridgeport to raise funds and awareness of oncology programs. We are fully committed to improving care and access for our community.

We are moving from an old and broken “normal” model of care that is inefficient, hard to navigate and inequitable. Redefining healthcare to be “better than normal” has required us to challenge the status quo and repeatedly disrupt our own operations.

We face this task with clear-eyed motivation to enhance four dimensions of care:

Access

Making it easier for people to receive their care close to home in all the communities we serve. HHC continuously innovates to develop needed programs. We improve access not only through our facilities, but when we go to our patients in their homes and neighborhoods. Access, for us, includes information and education; behavioral health and telehealth; senior care and COVID clinics.

Affordability

We are creating and delivering more cost-effective and convenient options to health services. Increasingly, this means providing safe and efficient care outside of higher-cost settings like hospitals, with options in urgent care and ambulatory care centers and through a growing network of home-based and community services.

Equity

We are fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment in which our colleagues, customers and communities feel valued and respected. Equity includes targeted outreach to the most vulnerable, our Neighborhood Health initiative, free offerings for health education and a whole body of work that advance our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging efforts.

Excellence

Through our nationally recognized Institute model, we proudly recruit and retain the greatest experts to be our colleagues. Our coordinated model of care regularly earns HHC national recognition for excellence in quality and safety, research and innovation. We have achieved impressive firsts in several specialties, and regularly earn honors and accolades from independent quality and rating authorities.
